Winners Star Awards 2013
At the 15th annual Economic Development Summit and Star Awards presentation, held on February 8, 2013, the Houston West Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the 2013 Star Awards as outstanding businesses in West Houston who have achieved mighty and bold accomplishments that normally go unnoticed. In their quest for creating business, these companies are having positive influences in the community and bringing employees and positive economic shifts to West Houston.
The Star Award recognizes businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies that have experienced exceptional performance and have significantly contributed to the West Houston community during the past year. The Chamber receives at least 200+ nominations each year for awards in various categories. Nominees are not required to be Chamber members, and judging criteria includes revenue, employee growth, community involvement, and industry recognition.

Josephine’s Day Spa & Salon
Josephine’s is one of the best known salons in all of West Houston. When Josephine died in 2008, our staff members rallied to keep the salon open as a tribute to Josephine’s legacy. Today, there are 57 team members at Josephine’s where they are all salaried employees, receiving medical and dental benefits. Our salon participates in several community fundraisers including a Back to School Fundraiser for Depelchin Children’s Center, a womens’ clothing drive for Star of Home and Toys for Tots. We also host an annual Pretty in Pink Gala to help raise money for breast cancer research. And we host an annual fundraiser in honor of Josephine, with all proceeds going to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
Thank you to all of our staff and clients for helping us win this award!
Presenting the award is Wally Ford, of Haynes Whaley associates, a past winner of the Star Award.
