If you’re part of the Josephine’s family — whether as a guest or a staff member — you already know we love making people feel good about themselves. (Satisfied client selfies make us smile to no end!) It’s an honor to witness the outer and inner transformation that accompanies a salon service. The only problem? Sometimes the people who are most in need of some “me time” are the least likely to actually schedule it for themselves. That’s why we’re delighted to launch the Josephine’s Gives Back Makeovers. We’re giving free head-to-toe makeovers to deserving members of our community—anyone who goes above and beyond for others. Read on to meet our first makeover recipient and learn how to nominate your loved one.
Meet our first makeover winner!
Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to our first Josephine’s makeover recipient: Hieu Nguyen. Nominated by her daughter, Hieu is a “loving, hardworking” individual who works three jobs to support her family — and has been doing so for the last 10 years. When she’s not at work Hieu is running the household: buying groceries, cooking, cleaning and serving as a role model for her daughters. Thanks to her efforts, all three of her children will graduate from college.
“She never has time for herself and is very deserving of this makeover,” says her daughter, who wrote the nominating letter. “I owe all that I have to my mother. She has pushed me to always work hard no matter what and get an education. This [makeover] would be a small way to show her how much I appreciate all she has done for my family and me all these years without the slightest bit of complaint.”

The makeover
Amy Gamez did Hieu’s hair and makeup — and thanks to Hieu’s gorgeous bone structure, smooth skin and thick, healthy hair, Amy had a lot to work with. Amy brought out Hieu’s features with light eyeliner and mascara, coupled with a glossy peach lip color that complemented the honey tones in her hair. Knowing how busy Hieu is, Gamez thought a low-maintenance balayage offered the best combination of form and function when it came to color. She trimmed a few inches off Hieu’s hair, creating a fashionable lob with sideswept bangs. The end result is a fantastic makeover on a fantastic person, as you can see for yourself.
