8th Annual Pretty in Pink Gala

We’re gearing up for our 8th Annual Pretty in Pink Gala, where 100% of all proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Would love to see you there!

Even if you haven’t been personally affected by breast cancer, chances are you know someone who has. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime—a sobering statistic that organizations like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Aveda and Josephine’s Day Spa & Salon are working hard to change.

One major way we show our commitment to finding a cure is our annual Pretty in Pink Gala. This is our eighth year throwing the bash, and we’re glad to say that with the help of our generous clients, we’ve donated $15,000 toward breast research over the last decade. This year, the Pretty in Pink Gala takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Josephine’s Day Spa & Salon (1127 Eldridge Parkway, Suite 1008, Houston). A $15 ticket gets you admission to the event, where you’ll find entertainment, pink cocktails, snacks, and games. Bonus: admission includes two raffle tickets. And trust us, you’ll want these fabulous prizes. From restaurant gift cards to eyelash extension, massage and facials packages, they’re great ways to treat yourself.

Most importantly, all proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We chose this organization because it’s been recognized by CharityWatch as one of the most country’s most financially efficient nonprofits. That means your dollars go exactly where they’re needed most: to supporting lifesaving breast cancer research.

Of course, it’s important to be aware that researchers aren’t the only ones who save lives. Early detection is key for detecting breast cancer early and preventing it from spreading. The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms for women ages 45 and up. But the reality is that breast cancer also affects women under age 40—and generally, the cancers that younger women get are the most aggressive types. That’s why it’s so important for all women to perform monthly self-exams of their breasts.

Here’s how it’s done. Start by standing and visually examining your breasts for changes such as dimpling or puckering, then do a manual inspection, firmly pressing all areas of the breasts, underarms, collarbones and the area up to the shoulder. Repeat the process while lying down, and notify your physician if you find anything out of the ordinary, like lumps or discharge. (More detailed instruction can be found here.)

Some women find the manual inspection easier with the aid of a lotion—which gives you the added benefit of moisturizing the décolletage area. If you like to include lotion as part of your self exam, may we suggest Aveda’s limited-edition Hand Relief Moisturizing Crème? For every purchase, Aveda donates $4 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s cruelty-free research efforts. In fact, since 2001, the Aveda network has raised $3.4 million for breast cancer research and awareness efforts.

We’re proud to be a part of a company that’s making a difference, and we invite you to join us in supporting the cause and celebrating each other at the 8th Annual Pretty in Pink Gala on Oct. 29. From clients to employees, many individuals in the Josephine’s family have seen their loved ones battle breast cancer or are survivors themselves. That’s just one reason why we’re so committed to supporting breast cancer research. We hope you’ll be a part of these efforts, too.
